Fort Lauderdale is the center of Broward County for business and government. Most of the government headquarters are located in downtown Fort Lauderdale with satelite courthouses scattered to the north and west.
Fort Lauderdale was named for Major Lauderdale of Tennessee, who along with his Tennessee volunteers came to the area in the late 1830s to quell Indian problems. Three forts were built using the name Fort Lauderdale in his honor. The first fort was believed to have been built near where the present day Bahia Mar stands on A1A.
Fort Lauderdale is a wonderful place to call home and it is as varied as anyone could want as to housing.
